The shop, on the main Salisbury road was purpose built as a butchers shop in 1906 and has remained a butchers ever since, with many changes over the years. 

The Buttlings

The Buttling family took over the business in 1978 having traded for many years in the London area (and the family have been in the meat trade since 1898!). Now Paul Buttling, the present owner, is 4th generation in his family to run the shop. The last few years has seen many changes, however the shop remains as popular as ever to the locals in the area, continuing to provide the highest quality meat, homemade pies and pastys along with a great choice of cheeses and fish.

I have been travelling to T.Buttling Butchers in Ludwell from Gillingham most weeks to buy fresh meat for a number of years now. I have always found Paul and his staff extremely friendly and helpful. The quality of the meat, especially the chicken, has always been excellent and if I am in any doubt as to how to cook anything they have been there to advise me. Paul will provide me with any cut of meat that I need, I only have to ask. There's always a happy atmosphere in the shop and its a pleasure to visit on a weekly basis. The sausages are lovely, my grandson thinks they're great!
